One of Herefordshire’s huge creative talents, Simon Meiklejohn is an artist to watch.
Simon trained under a traditional apprenticeship scheme in Hereford and after qualifying as a mechanical engineer, went on to study fine art in Cleveland. Combining disciplines, he achieves a balance between artist informing engineer and engineer informing artist.
In Simon’s artist statement he says…
Art performs many subtle and dramatic roles in our society. It is a varying and multifaceted thing, and its forms overlap, compliment and sometimes oppose each other. It is so varying because we who produce it are so. I am not one fixed and constant thing, I have different heads, moods and motivations that influence my work. Of these many forms I see areas that I move between.
This is clearly reflected in Simon’s work. Whilst his wind sculptures inspire a tranquility that mesmerizes, other fine art pieces gently demand contemplation. There are glimpses of beauty, touches of the genius mad inventor, and hints of playfulness which all combine to compel you to take a closer look.

Simon’s specialist knowledge has gained him prestigious contracts with national galleries and museums.
Canwood Gallery (CG) is delighted to be launching for H.Art on Saturday 10th September 2016 with an exceptional mixture of internationally-renowned and local artists.
