Ben Esthop has travelled extensively through Europe, the Far East and North America in a restless search to discover an outlet for his exceptional talent for making. From his established studio base in the Worcestershire countryside he is now producing stunning works, with a high degree of functionality, turned in classic hardwoods fused with the dynamic of synthetics. Each piece produced in his studio workshop as an aura of visual perfection, in essence sculpture with the added element of purpose. This desire for a purity of form initially led Ben to the work of Japanese bowl makers, where he began to examine their methods of working wood. Their philosophies include the indivisibility of beauty and utility, and respect for chosen materials and their place in the natural world, art being integral to their way of life. Applying these principles to his own work, Ben is committed to creating something both beautiful and practical.
